Article Archive Rebrush
From raw list to structured archive — built entirely from existing components.
The brief
An archive that finally behaved like one.
Every article ever published on welt.de was archived on a single page. The problem: nobody had ever designed it. The result was a raw, unstyled list — functional in the most technical sense, but unusable for anyone who actually wanted to find something. The brief was to fix that, without commissioning new development work.

The approach
The constraint was clear from the start: no new components. Everything had to be built from modules that already existed in the system — board-level building blocks that developers had already shipped. The design challenge was making existing pieces feel like a considered whole.
The redesign starts with a header that orientates the reader immediately — what this page is, what it contains, why they're here. Below it, a tab navigation separates the archive into three content types: articles, videos, and image galleries. Alongside the tabs, a dropdown date selector lets users navigate directly to any day. The default always lands on today.
The article list itself shows everything a reader needs to scan and choose: section, kicker, headline, publication date, and time. To keep the page from collapsing under its own weight, the list is paginated — a length limit that makes the volume manageable.
At the bottom of the page, a full calendar showing all months was added at the request of the SEO team. The archive carried significant search value, and the calendar gave crawlers and users alike a clear, structured path through the entire content history.
Everything was built mobile-first — the tab navigation, the date picker, the list layout, and the calendar all adapt cleanly to smaller screens.

The outcome
